X-RAY CERTIFICATION
1. GSDF Philippines is currently accepting the x-ray certification of GSDs from 18 months and above to qualify for the dog shows and for breeding requirement. *This will be a requirement and shall be implemented effective January 1, 2026*
2. GSDs should be x-rayed in clinics with digital x-ray output.
3. Before accepting the application for x-ray and conducting any procedure of the x-ray like giving anesthetics, the qualified veterinarian should scan the microchip first to validate the identity of the GSD. If the microchip doesn’t match with the identity of the dog, the application for x-ray should be rejected .
4. Incorrectly labeled x-rays and/or x-rays of poor quality (plates or digital) will not be accepted for reading and shall be returned by the reader to the GSDF Hip and Elbow Dysplasia Control Scheme Registrar. The Registrar shall then contact the
Veterinarian/Owner advising them of the situation.
5. Contracts are issued in the name of the dog to be x-rayed and cannot be transferred to another dog under any circumstance.
6. Computer Radiography Generated Images (Digital X-rays)
For computer radiography generated images (digital x-rays) to be accepted by the GSDF Philippines Hip Dysplasia and Elbow Dysplasia Control Scheme, the images must be of a high quality and saved as DICOM Images. (i.e. .dcm extension).
7. The x-ray plates/digital x-rays submitted for assessment in the GSDF Philippines Hip Dysplasia and Elbow Dysplasia Control Scheme are to be as follows:
a) The dog’s GSDF tattoo number and/or microchip number
b) the date
c) the right or left marker
d) the dog’s name
e) the contract number
8. POSITION OF ANIMALS FOR X-RAYING High Definition x-ray
One view of the dog’s pelvis is to be taken under general anaesthesia. A high quality radiograph/digital radiograph is required and any incorrectly exposed or poorly positioned films will not be read but returned for re-x-raying. The radiograph should be repeated at the veterinarian’s expense.
a. View: Extended Ventro-Dorsal pelvis
No other view will be accepted for assessment.
b. The radiograph should cover an area from the iliac crest to the stifle joint. The femora should be parallel to each other and the stifles rotated inward so that the patellae lie in the centre of the trochleae of the femora, care should be taken to ensure that the pelvis is square and the femora are parallel to the cassette.
c. Elbow x-ray: A fully flexed lateral view taken from the medial to the lateral.
9. POSTINGS AND RESULTS:
The Veterinarian shall send the digital copy of the x-ray plates to GSDF Philippines, and GSDF Philippines will send the documents to China for Grade level assessment for hips and elbows (1,2,3,4 and 5) by an SV Certified Veterinarian
10. The Veterinarian must ensure that the animal complies with the requirements of the GSDF Philippines.
